Desequilibrios globales y pandemia. Impacto y perspectivas

Resumen

El impacto económico de la COVID-19 ha supuesto la ampliación de los desequilibrios globales, revirtiendo el proceso de corrección parcial de la década anterior en los saldos por cuenta corriente (o desequilibrios de flujo). De igual forma, los desequilibrios de las posiciones de inversión internacional (o desequilibrios de stock), que seguían creciendo, han experimentado un incremento adicional. En este artículo se analizan los principales factores que han afectado a los desequilibrios globales como consecuencia de la pandemia. La desigual recuperación global contribuye a que los desequilibrios sigan ampliándose en el corto plazo. Además, la pandemia está provocando o acelerando cambios de fondo en la economía global en ámbitos tales como la digitalización productiva y financiera, la organización del trabajo o, de un modo más indirecto, en la fiscalidad internacional y en la transición hacia una economía verde. Estos cambios estructurales afectarán a los desequilibrios globales en el largo plazo, aunque el signo y la magnitud de su impacto sean aún inciertos.
